These in ground containment and pet fencing systems include the heavier 18 gauge wire as a standard component. Typically 18G wire is used in soils that may contain more gravel or have more rock density. The 18G wire does not enhance or make the containment system more effective. This heavier wire may last longer and be more resistant to shifting soils.
