Dog Breed DNA Identification Test
The Dog Breed DNA Identification
Test now allows you to determine the percentages of your dog breed makeup.
This is important in understanding your dogs behavior, potential health risks
and personality. Advances in DNA testing technology allows the possibility
to identify the ancestry of any dog by performing a simple test using a swab
of your pets cheek skin cells. All cells carry the same genetic material regardless
of the type of location inside the animal making a cheek swab the easiest
way in obtaining sampled needed for breed testing. The BioPet testing lab
site on receipt will prepare and analyze the samples quickly and accurately
in determining the breeds that have contributed to the makeup of your dog.
The typical turnaround time in receiving results is 2 weeks!
Dog DNA Testing Results Information
Here is an overview about Dog DNA Test Results.
Let's assume 2 pure bred dogs are bred together to create a mixed breed puppy. If this mixed breed puppy is bred with another puppy from 2 other breeds, the inherited traits seen in the offspring would not be what you would expect to see. Common sense would indicate that the dog should be 25% of each of the 4 breeds of their grandparents, however when the genetic makeup of those puppies is examined then that is not the case. If there were 16 puppies in the litter then 4 of those puppies would be expected to show 25% of each of their grandparent's breeds, 8 puppies would only show 3 breeds, and 4 puppies would only show 2 of the breeds.
The DNA Breed ID test only shows the Breeds that actually contribute DNA, so the fact that 12 of the 16 puppies do not show all 4 breeds would be shown by the Breed ID Test.
Breed Identification List
Your dog's DNA will be analyzed to see which of the following 92 breeds matches that of your pet's. In circumstances that a breed is not in the following database, the system will assign the most closely related breed or breeds that are found further back in your dog's ancestry.
After receipt of your sample, we will process and
analyze your dog's DNA. Processing can take up to two weeks. When your
sample is successfully processed, you will receive your dog's unique
Ancestry Analysis Certificate and Breed Behavior, Health and Personality
Summary.

Instructions for Preparing the Sample for DNA testing
Remember to use both swabs on one Dog.
1. Complete the Customer Information Card
2. Keep food away from the dog for at least one hour prior to collecting the sample.
3. If sampling multiple dogs, be sure that they are separated for more than one (1) hour before testing. Sample ONE at a time and complete the entire process before proceeding to the next dog, to avoid any cross contamination of the DNA samples. During this time keep the dogs away from any shared toys, food and water dishes.

4. Remove the polyester tipped applicator from the paper sleeve and brush the inside of the dog's cheek. Rub and swirl the swab FIRMLY for at least 10 seconds. To ensure better cell collection, press on the outside of the dogs check as you swab. This will not injure the cheeks in any way. This test is a cell based test. To work properly there must be a large amount of cells collected. The firmer and longer the swabbing process, the better the chance of getting a good DNA sample.
5. Allow the swab to completely air dry for at least thirty (30) minutes before returning it to the paper sleeve.
6. Repeat the swabbing process with the second swab.
7. Write the dog's name on the swab sleeve.
8. Place the samples and Customer Information Card in the prepaid envelope and return to BioPet Vet Lab. Be sure to return both swabs.

If submitting samples for more than one dog, repeat steps 1 through 7 for each dog separately. Be sure to avoid any sample cross contamination, and correctly label the envelope for each swab. Each dog's sample must be submitted in a separate envelope to avoid cross contamination.
Please allow 7-10 days for your sample to arrive at our lab. Processing time from this point will be 2 weeks.
Your dog's Ancestry Analysis Certificate and Breed Behavior, Health and Personality Summary will be mailed to you within two weeks after receipt of your sample.
