The Solo Automatic Pet Door is made to operate consistently - every time. Your pet wears a magnetic collar tag, no batteries, no electronics that get wet and malfunction. Other less expensive brands boast that they are the most ingenious doors, somehow equivalent to science fiction television shows. How the Solo Works: When the Solo detects the pet tag the motor turns a pulley that winds up the cord. The steel locking pin retracts then the door lifts up for the pet to pass. When it is time for the door to come down, it must unwind from this pulley that has drag to it so there is no downward force, very safe and gentle. The last function of the cycle after the door closes is to shoot the steel locking pin back into the Solo 2x4 aluminum frame. This attractive door is made of bronzed, transparent lexan and framed in sturdy, dark black, anodized 2x4 aluminum. The interior trim plate is made of white textured acrylic which can be painted if desired. NO other automatic pet door is made as well, this dependable!

Installation: The Solo Wall Model is installed so that the entire unit is INSIDE of your wall. There is a front cover plate of the unit and the self-adjusting tunnel meets the unit from the exterior side of the wall. This means that you will have no profile sticking into the room.

Wall Mount Installation Instructions:

Find the best location to install your SOLO PET DOOR. For large dogs, install the door 4" or 8" above the floor level so that it can easily step through the door with comfort. If you have a small dog and a large dog, compromise: install to suit both pets.

Always install the SOLO PET DOOR from the inside of the house. The Black (smaller) plastic trim will mount outside. The White face plastic trim with a switch on it mounts inside the house (or garage). White Trim Inside- Black Trim Outside.

1) Take white and black trims off before installation

2) Cut out plaster board on inside wall. The pet door frame will be mounted between studs. Using a keyhole saw, or power saw that is set for shallow cut, make a small inspection hole first. Then, with your hand, check for electrical wires. Re-route wire if necessary. Cut hole to size and temporarily insert the pet door frame into the wall cavity. For the largest pet doors one stud may have to be cut away to accommodate metal frame.

3A) Locate cut opening in outside wall or siding. With frame in wall, lift the sliding pet door
3B) Cut exterior opening. Remove pet door frame from wall. Drill 4 (four) holes through the exterior wall, one at each corner of the opening. Go outside and mark with a straight edge, a similar rectangular opening using the holes as corners. Draw a box opening lines ¼ inch larger, so that the black trim will fit smoothly when installed.

(4) Pet Door Mounting. Reinstall the pet door frame into the wall opening. The metal frame of the pet door should be flush with the plaster board,( or sheet rock). Fasten the metal frame to the wall studs (holes provided).

5) Attach exterior trim to the frame. Insert 4 (four) screws that hold the black trim to the frame. Apply sealant around edges.

6)(OPTIONAL) Permanent Wiring. NOTE: SHUT OFF POWER FIRST! If the pet door is to be permanently wired into the house wiring, run a conduit (#14 with ground) through the TOP of the metal pet door frame as shown. The pet door uses only 2 watts of power (20 watts while opening), so it may be wired into the nearest wall outlet electrical box. A separate circuit is not needed. Connect ground wire to metal frame. NOTE: If the nearest source of 120v, 60Hz power is connected to a large load, such as an air compressor motor, or electric hot water heater, then a separate circuit is recommended. This is because the pet door receiver electronics is sensitive to large turn-on or turn-off power surges or the the magnetic field generated by such surges.

7) Final steps. Attach white interior trim to metal frame. Plug pet door power cord into 120v, 60Hz power receptacle (or, turn on circuit breaker if door has been permanently wired). Turn on power switch at front of the pet door. Door should open and close (one time) when first turned on.

Sensitivity and Open-Time Settings

The Solo Pet Door is electronically programmed to operate ONLY ONCE EACH 20 SECONDS.

The pet's magnet must move in order to activate the door. The sensitivity is initially set at the factory to activate the door at approximately 3 feet ( adjustable) and to stay open for approximately 3 seconds ( also adjustable).

Adjustment of sensitivity and timing may be useful for special circumstances. For example, if one wants to let the dog out while keeping a cat inside ( or out), the sensitivity can be decreased and the door open-time reduced.

Remove the whit plastic trim panel to gain access to the receiver electronics module. Follow these procedures.

SENSITIVITY. Once your pet is comfortable with operating the door (usually within one week), it is time to adjust the door to activate at a closer distance - perhaps at 18 inches. To adjust the distance accurately and correctly, please follow the steps as listed.

1) Hold the collar magnet in your hand at approximately the same height as your pet would wear it.

2) Hold the magnet 3 feet away from the pet door.

3) Gently flip wrist up and down and sideways as if the animal were approaching the pet door. If the door does not open, Carefully move 6 inches closer and repeat. NOTE: you have to wait 20 seconds each time the door opens before it can again be opened.

4) To decrease sensitivity, using a small screwdriver, turn the recessed white SENSITIVITY control counter-clockwise SLIGHTLY. DO NOT FORCE.

TIMING. The pet door is set to stay open for approximately 3 seconds. Once the pet is familiar with the pet door, you should set the timing down to approximately 1-2 seconds. which is plenty of time for your pet to exit the pet door. To decrease open time, use a small screwdriver to turn OPEN TIME control clockwise. DO NOT FORCE.

If you have cats that you intend to keep inside, the less time and the less sensitivity to which the open door is programmed the less of a chance your cat will have in going outside.

Once the pet door has been set to best accommodate you and your pets' needs, no further adjustments are necessary.

After many pet doors of all types we finally found one that ALWAYS WORKS PERFECTLY.
The raccoons have tried to figure it out to no avail. Even our neighborhood Muskrat has failed to ramble in.
After TWO years it has been TOTALLY TROUBLE FREE.

We are in the upper elevations of the Great Smoky Mountains and have frequent Power failures during the winter. I bought a 60 minute computer battery back-up device and plugged it into that. Last winter our dog McKinsey was outside when the power went out. She just scooted right in, no problem.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANYTHING ELSE.

Let me start by saying that the Solo Automatic Pet Door works great. I had a High Tech Pet pet door for about 6 months and had nothing but trouble. After trying to get replacement parts and and make warranty claims, i finally gave up. I saw the Solo on your site and was very concerned that i would have the same problems. I called in and talked with a nice young man who told me that Solo was a much better quality door and that they weren't affiliated with High Tech Pet. I did some more research and decided to get the Solo. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!!!!! The door works great and it works exactly as it is supposed to. Thanks for a great product.

I have an older dog named Chalie who we got from an animal rescue. Charlie is blind in one eye and has very bad arthritis. He couldn't use just a regular door so we got him this automatic door. This has been the best thing we could have done for him. Although he is old we want him to be comfortable in his old age.
